Blinken reacts to Britain's transfer of long-range missiles

May 12, 2023

The Secretary of State of the United States, which still refuses to provide Ukraine with long-range missiles, commented on the transfer of long-range Storm Shadow missiles to Ukraine by the UK.

Anthony Blinken said this in an interview with PBS NewsHour.

The U.S. Secretary of State noted that different countries will do different things (to help Ukraine - Ed.) depending on their capabilities, depending on their technology, depending on what makes the most sense.

This is how he answered the question of what arguments the United States is currently using to explain its refusal to send a longer-range missile to Ukraine.

"We have provided Ukraine with unique assistance in this process. Other countries may do things that are different from what we are doing. The question is this: Does it all meet Ukraine's needs? And we are convinced that it does," the US Secretary of State said.

Asked whether Washington is concerned about escalation because the British are providing longer-range missiles, Blinken said that, again, this is all done as part of a coalition and coordinated process.
