Britain has chosen a place to build a nuclear power plant

May 22, 2024

The United Kingdom wants to build a new large nuclear power plant on the island of Anglesey in northern Wales and has already begun negotiations with international energy companies to build the plant.

This was reported by Reuters.

London is seeking to increase its nuclear power capacity to 24 gigawatts by 2050, which is about a quarter of its projected electricity demand.

According to a government statement, the new plant could generate enough electricity for six million homes for 60 years and would be similar in scale to the projects underway at Hinkley and Sizewell in England.

The plant is to be built at the Wylfa site, where a nuclear power plant was already operating until 2015. It was bought for 160 million pounds from Hitachi, which abandoned plans to build a new reactor in 2019.

The British government has not named the firms that will be involved in negotiations on the development of a new project.
