As noted in the report, the "Army International Games," which first took place in 2015, is an annual event organized by the Russian Ministry of Defense in which a number of countries compete in military events for two weeks. The last games in 2022 were attended by 6,000 people from 37 countries.

According to British intelligence, Russia probably canceled the games to avoid criticism of the event as a trivial wartime activity that diverts military efforts from the war in Ukraine, and to avoid a possible reduction in participation by other countries.

The games are especially known for the "tank biathlon" event.

"There is also a real possibility that due to the losses in Ukraine, the Russian Ministry of Defense is concerned that a shortage of qualified military personnel and equipment could jeopardize Russia's consistent dominance in the competition," the British Ministry of Defense said.
