The Wall Street Journal writes about this. Experts on Turkish politics recognize that this option is quite likely.

The publication notes that 44-year-old Selçuk Bayraktar is one of the most popular public figures in his country. The businessman's supporters are considering his nomination for the presidency. They assume that he may agree to run.

"I may say yes, but it will depend on the circumstances," Selçuk Bayraktar told the Wall Street Journal in an interview in 2023.

The businessman himself has previously admitted that he does not plan to be actively involved in politics. At the same time, he said, he may run for president if Erdogan asks him to.

Selçuk Bayraktar inherited the company with his brother Haluk after the death of his father, Özdemir Bayraktar. According to the WSJ, he has known Erdogan since childhood.

The previous presidential elections in Turkey took place in May 2023. Erdogan won the second round with a score of 52.18%. The next elections are due in 2028.
