Russia decided in January to reduce the level of diplomatic relations with Estonia to temporary chargé d'affaires. Estonian Ambassador in Moscow Margus Laidra was ordered to leave Russia by February 7.

As the level of diplomatic relations will be reduced, Russia will also recall its ambassador to Tallinn, Vladimir Lipayev. He too must leave Estonia no later than February 7.
