On Friday, the Permanent Representatives of the European Union member states approved the draft regulation "Ammunition Support Act" (ASAP), which provides for the production of up to 1 million rounds of ammunition per year.
This was reported by the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
As noted in the report, the ASAP regulation will help increase the EU's shell production capacity, allowing its defense industry to better support the armed forces of Ukraine and member states.
The Council of the European Union has now received a mandate to negotiate with the European Parliament to approve the regulation. It requires the decision of both of these EU institutions to enter into force; the European Parliament has previously supported the negotiations on an accelerated basis.
