On May 28, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, signed a Security and Defense Partnership Agreement with the Norwegian Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defense.

This was reported by the European External Action Service.

The updated agreement on security and defense partnership “reflects the strong bilateral relations between the EU and Norway, its most closely aligned partner,” the statement said.

The agreement covers the existing areas of cooperation between the parties, including support for Ukraine, Norway's participation in EU missions and operations, and its involvement in EU defense initiatives, and also strengthens practical cooperation in maritime security, cybersecurity, and countering disinformation.

The new agreement introduces a new format for consultations between Norway and the EU on peace mediation, as well as new joint measures to protect underwater critical infrastructure.
