The draft eleventh package of European Union sanctions against Russia provides for a ban on access to European ports for ships trying to circumvent the already imposed restrictions on Russian oil.

This was reported by Bloomberg, which has reviewed the draft sanctions proposals.

The European Commission, which has circulated a draft of new sanctions against Russia among member states, explains the need for new restrictions by "a sharp increase in deceptive practices and related environmental risks" by ships trying to circumvent the price ceiling for Russian oil and the ban on its maritime imports to the EU.

The sanctions stipulate that vessels that violate the sanctions or are suspected of violating them by transshipping Russian oil must be removed from European ports and gateways.
