EU will support reconstruction of Ukrainian cities

The European Union will assist Ukraine in rebuilding both now and after the victory.

This was stated by EU Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms Elisa Ferreira during an online speech at the Lviv Urban Forum, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"I have a message for you, for all Ukrainian cities that have suffered over the past year: The EU will support the reconstruction of Ukrainian cities, we will continue to support Ukrainians until you win this war. We will help in the reconstruction by mobilizing the support of our partners from all over the world. We will also use all our experience in urban transformation in line with the EU's cohesion policy," Ferreira emphasized.

The Commissioner added that the EU will send European partners to Ukraine to support investments and financial resources, but only Ukrainian priorities, ideas, and needs will determine the ways of reconstruction.

Farreira noted that Ukraine already has existing experience in European partnership, as it participates in five cross-border programs totaling more than 66 million euros. And it is worth taking full advantage of them. As an example, the commissioner cites the transformation of a children's hospital in Lviv, following the example of Poland.
