France to propose EU new sanctions against Russia for disinformation

Apr 2, 2024

France will propose to impose sanctions against Russian companies involved in the spread of disinformation at the European Union level.

This was stated by French Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourne, The Guardian reports.

"I will propose putting forward a sanctions regime against those who support a regime of disinformation," Sejourne said during a joint press conference with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.

The French minister did not disclose any further details.

As a reminder, Russians are actively trying to spread their disinformation in Europe. In particular, it is related to the war against Ukraine.

On December 6, the Center for Countering Disinformation reported that Russia was preparing a disinformation campaign against Ukraine's top leadership and help for Ukraine. The enemy wanted to publish fakes in foreign media.
