Georgia won’t join sanctions against Russia due to “strong arguments”

Feb 21, 2024

Georgia will not impose sanctions against Russia, and the country allegedly has very strong arguments for this.

This was stated by the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze during his visit to Brussels, according to Echo of the Caucasus.

"We have a very clear position in this direction: we do not impose sanctions, and we have very strong arguments for this," he said.

Kobakhidze assured that Georgia is not being used to circumvent sanctions.

According to the prime minister, Georgia supports Ukraine "politically, provides it with powerful humanitarian aid," and has "exceptionally friendly relations with the Ukrainian people".

Officials in Georgia say that they are complying with all sanctions imposed by Western countries against Russia. However, Georgia itself does not plan to impose sanctions against Russia.
