British Defence Secretary Ben Wallace has said that the appointment of General Valeriy Gerasimov as the new commander of the combined group of Russian troops in Ukraine means that the Russian Federation is returning to the offensive at the front. The head of the British defense ministry said this in the UK parliament, the ministry's press service reports.

Wallace considers indicative of personnel changes among the supreme command of the aggressor country.

"This is the visible tip of the iceberg of factionalism in the Russian command," the minister commented.

He also noted that Gerasimov would stick to the policy of attacking on the battlefield no matter what losses this would mean for the Russian side.

"We can now expect the trend of the Russian offensive to return - regardless of how many lives it will mean," the defense chief said.

Meanwhile, Wallace is confident that Russian President Vladimir Putin is "optimistic" about these personnel changes.
