The German concern Rheinmetall may supply Ukraine with a total of 139 Leopard type 1 and 2 tanks if the German government gives its permission to export them.
A representative of the concern said this in an interview with RND.
"We still have 22 Leopard 2A4 vehicles that we could prepare for use and deliver to Ukraine," he said.
According to the representative, it would take almost a year to repair these vehicles. Delivery would be possible in late 2023 or early 2024.
"In addition, there are 29 more Leopard 2A4 tanks that we are preparing for ring exchange projects, which will be ready by April-May 2023," he said.-
The concern could also provide 88 Leopard 1 vehicle.
"The situation is very volatile because of security policies, different forms of direct or indirect supply, and changing order priorities. So it is difficult, for example, to give specific delivery dates," stressed a spokesman for the concern.-
Countries that own Leopard tanks and want to transfer them must apply to the Federal Office of Economics and Export Control. The decision is taken by the Federal Security Council, which includes several federal ministers. Meetings of the council are held in secret.
