Germany continues to oppose the idea of creating a “defense shield” against Russia's air strikes on Ukraine by the North Atlantic Alliance.
According to DPA, this was stated at a briefing by German Federal Government spokesman Steffen Gebestreit.
As Gebestreit explained, the use of NATO forces to protect the airspace over Ukraine, from the point of view of Berlin, “would be an involvement, a direct involvement in this conflict.”
“And this is not what we want,” he added, recalling the similar position of German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
