Ukraine has received a new military aid package from Germany. It includes launchers to strengthen air defense.

As part of the new aid package, Germany handed over two launchers of the IRIS-T SLM short-range air defense system to Ukraine.

Berlin also provided:

  • 4,539 rounds 155mm smoke ammunition (Germany had previously handed over 12,460 such shells);
  • 10 ground surveillance radars GO12 (18 units were previously transferred)
  • 4 truck tractor trains 8x8 HX81 and 4 semi-trailers (previously 38 and 33 respectively);
  • 8 load-handling trucks 15t (previously 26).

The German government noted that this year Ukraine has received €5.4 billion in military aid from Berlin.

It should be added that the IRIS-T SLS system is a short-range air defense system. There are no transport and launch containers in the SAM system. The missile's range is 12 km at a target height of up to 8 km.

The portable Ground Observer radars that Ukraine received were developed by Thales. They are designed for ground surveillance with high scanning speed. They are used to monitor the battlefield, border, coast, and adjust fire from closed positions.
