Germany wants to speed up the process of employing Ukrainians

Apr 1, 2024

The Association of German Cities and Municipalities calls for accelerating the integration of Ukrainian refugees into the labor market by allowing them to be employed without knowledge of German.

This was reported by tagesschau.

According to the association's director general, Andre Bergegger, the German authorities should speed up the process of integrating Ukrainians into the labor market by changing the rules for employing refugees.

"We are still too bureaucratic and inflexible when it comes to labor market integration. It should be possible to get a job without first taking language and integration courses," said Berhegger.

He also called for integration activities and language learning to be able to take place simultaneously with employment. As the number of integration courses offered is stagnating, the authorities should be prepared for the continued arrival of refugees from Ukraine.

"It is also unlikely that most Ukrainians will return home in the near future. That is why we need sustainable integration structures for this group," added Bergegger.
