UN Secretary-General António Guterres has condemned the attack on Iran's diplomatic mission in the Syrian capital Damascus, which resulted in the killing of an Iranian military leader.

According to an Ukrinform correspondent in New York, the Secretary-General's spokesman, Stéphane Dujarric, told reporters on Tuesday.

According to him, "the principle of inviolability of diplomatic and consular premises and personnel must be respected in any case in accordance with international law."

Guterres "reiterated calls on all parties concerned to avoid attacks that could cause harm to civilians and civilian infrastructure," Dujarric said.

He added that the UN Secretary-General also calls on all parties concerned to exercise maximum restraint and avoid further escalation.

Guterres warns that any miscalculation could lead to an escalation of the conflict, which would have devastating consequences for civilians who are already suffering unprecedentedly in Syria, Lebanon, the occupied Palestinian territory, and the entire Middle East, Dujarric said.

It will most likely end in condemnation. No one will be held accountable. Double-standard policy in action.

On the other hand, why doesn't Israel attack Iran itself? Why do the UN, the US, and other NATO countries just impose sanctions on Iran that don't work instead of serious military intervention?
