Dec 6, 2023

The EU states have not yet agreed on the wording of the final decision of the EU summit on the start of negotiations on Ukraine's accession, as Hungary continues to block issues related to supporting Kyiv.

A European diplomat told Interfax-Ukraine on condition of anonymity.

According to the source, the permanent representatives of the EU member states will continue to discuss the draft decision of the European Council on the start of negotiations on Ukraine's membership in the EU until Sunday.

"The meetings of the permanent representatives will continue until Sunday. Hungary still continues to block (the decision to start negotiations with Ukraine on EU membership - Ed.)," the diplomat said.

The European Council meeting at the level of heads of state and government will be held in Brussels on December 14-15. The EU leaders are to discuss the European Commission's proposal to give the green light to the start of membership negotiations with Ukraine, which could be launched after Kyiv fulfills the remaining conditions in full.
