Jan 19, 2023

Secretary of State for Bilateral Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary Tamas Menzer called on the Ukrainian authorities to cancel another "anti-Hungarian decision" in relation to the Transcarpathian community.

This was reported by the European Pravda.

"We call on the local authorities to immediately stop the atrocities against Hungarians! We call on the leadership of Ukraine to immediately do everything possible to cancel the anti-Hungarian decisions and restore the status quo ante," Menzer wrote on Facebook.

In his post, the representative of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry did not specify what kind of "atrocities" and "harassment" he was referring to but posted a link to the material published by Index in his comments.

Citing "local media," it claims that police in two localities in the Mukachevo district of Zakarpattia - Fornoshe and Dertsene - have allegedly removed Hungarian flags from several state institutions, citing a "recent decree," and that the principal of the Ferenc Rakoczi II secondary school in Mukachevo was fired without any explanation.
