Imported electricity is not enough to cover the deficit in the system

Electricity imports from Europe are not enough to cover the deficit in the power system caused by significant destruction in the energy sector.

This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to DTEK CEO Dmytro Sakharuk.

“Imported electricity is now entering the country, but it is not enough to cover this deficit. As a result, it is necessary to limit consumption to balance the system. There is no other way out now,” he said.

Sakharuk noted that the main reason for the deficit is the destroyed or damaged power plants as a result of massive Russian attacks on the energy sector. This has led to the fact that it is now impossible to produce enough electricity to meet the needs of consumers.

He explained that currently the only alternative way to balance the power system until generation is restored is to limit consumer consumption.

“This is done to prevent even worse consequences. Because if the system is overloaded, it can lead to accidents and, as a result, to the inability to supply power to consumers for a long time,” said DTEK's executive director.

In conclusion, Sakharuk added that this situation will remain until Ukraine restores its own generation.
