On April 3, a Russian military blogger said that Ukrainian forces were preparing for counterattacks in the Avdiivka area after several failed attempts, analysts said.

On April 4, Russian troops continued their offensive along the Avdiivka-Donetsk front line. Geolocation footage released on April 4 shows that Russian troops made minor gains west of Novobakhmutivka, 13 km northwest of Avdiivka.

Russian military bloggers claimed that Russian troops were trying to advance toward Avdiivka from the southwest and east and were conducting assaults near Severne (6 km west of Avdiivka) and Pervomaiske (11 km southwest of Avdiivka), as well as in Maryinka (27 km southwest of Avdiivka), the report said.

The Ukrainian General Staff reported that Russian troops conducted unsuccessful assaults near Avdiivka itself, Novokalynove, Krasnohorivka and Severne, Pervomayske and Maryinka.
