It may take about 70 years to demine Ukrainian territory

During a meeting with a member of the Canadian parliament, Economy Minister Yulia Svyrydenko said that Ukraine needs an analog of Ramstein to clear the territory of contamination.

The parties discussed the issue of war risk insurance for foreign companies willing to participate in Ukraine's rapid recovery, including Canadian businesses. Ms. Svyrydenko noted that Ukraine is already working on this issue with the United States and the European Union, and emphasized the importance of introducing investment insurance mechanisms in the context of the need to restore and revitalize the national economy, which fell by 30.4% last year.

At the same time, Yulia Svyrydenko emphasized that, given Ukraine's resources, the demining of contaminated areas will take 70 years. Therefore, she noted that in order to solve this problem, support from international partners is needed - financial, technological, and organizational.

In order to synchronize and coordinate demining efforts, the Ukrainian side proposed to create an analog of the defense Ramstein.

In addition, the meeting discussed the return of Ukrainians who were forced to go abroad because of the war and the support the Ukrainian government is ready to provide them, programs to rebuild housing and infrastructure destroyed during the war, food security, and Ukraine's role.
