Last year, EU countries granted temporary protection to more than 4.3 million people from Ukraine who fled Russian aggression.

This is stated in the latest data from the European Statistical Agency.

"In 2022, EU member states granted 4,331,200 temporary protection statuses to non-EU citizens who fled Ukraine because of the Russian invasion. As of December 31, 2022, 3,826,600 non-EU nationals have benefited from temporary protection in the EU," the report says.

The difference between the two figures corresponds to the termination of temporary protected status, as former beneficiaries of temporary protection left the EU or received another status.
