Latvia receives permission for direct flights to the United States

Jul 7, 2023

The US Federal Aviation Administration has authorized Latvian airlines to operate direct commercial flights to the United States.

This is reported by LSM.

It is noted that the US regulator assigned Latvia a first-category rating after more than six months of inspections for compliance with its civil aviation regulations with the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

"Our airlines were not allowed to fly to the United States. We also could not cooperate with American companies. This category is also useful for investors, as companies based in the first category country have more favorable conditions," said Maris Gorodtsovs, head of the Latvian Civil Aviation Agency (CAA).

Meanwhile, Air Baltic CEO Martin Gauss called Latvia's approval for direct flights to the United States a great achievement, as now every Latvian airline can operate direct flights to and from the United States.

"This is important not only for us but also opens up the possibility for US citizens to get to the Baltic States faster through Riga Airport," he concluded.
