Moldova does not see Russia as a strategic partner - Sandu

May 22, 2023

Moldovan President Maia Sandu believes that Russia is not a strategic partner for her country given its actions.

She said this in an interview with the Moldovan project NonFiction, which was broadcast on Saturday.

When asked whether Russia and Moldova are strategic partners, Sandu said she did not know when such a partnership took place.

"If you are not respected, it is definitely not a strategic partnership. When Russia has kept troops on our territory for 30 years against the will of our people, this is not a strategic partnership," the head of state said.

"When, again, there are all kinds of blockades of our exports, when you pay very high prices for gas and still they reduce gas supplies by 60% for no reason, what kind of strategic partnership is this?" she added.

Sandu emphasized that Moldova is ready to cooperate with those countries that respect our sovereignty, that respect our people, and when this cooperation is mutual for us.

She called Russian President Vladimir Putin a man who started the war, and in this war, many innocent people are dying, and the Russian Federation is a state that does not value its people, where human life is worthless.
