Moldova may join EU sanctions against Russia

Moldova will soon review the list of EU sanctions against Russia, which it may join.

This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu, Newsmaker reports.

"It was decided that Moldova would not immediately join certain restrictive measures, including sanctions. Now we are re-evaluating some of the decisions made earlier and will present new ones in the near future," Popescu said.

The minister noted that the EU has 38 sanctions regimes that are used as a legal basis for developing sanctions, of which Moldova has joined 21.

"Any measures of this kind require specific actions in our institutions, financial institutions, or institutions that monitor the inflow and outflow of funds from Moldova. So far, we are analyzing how Moldova will react in certain areas. As far as sanctions are concerned, our position is absolutely clear. Our degree of joining the sanctions will increase significantly," he added.
