Jul 25, 2024

The current Deputy Secretary General of NATO, Romanian Mircea Geoană, said that he currently considers his work in the Alliance a priority and that he will make a decision to enter national politics after consulting with the new Secretary General Mark Rutte.

He said this in an interview with the Digi24 TV channel.

Ioană, who is considered the most popular presidential candidate in Romania, said he would announce his participation in the presidential election “after he finishes his work in NATO.”

“We have institutional expectations, five years at the helm of NATO, passing the baton to a new team. I still have to have a discussion with Mark Rutte and then I will make a decision, putting the institution first, because politics can wait,” he added.
