Nausėda criticizes the military for lack of attention to drones

Feb 9, 2024

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda has criticized the country's military for not paying enough attention to the capabilities of drones, saying that they play a crucial role in the overall defense strategy.

This is reported by LRT.

"It seems that our military has not yet fully realized the fact that the development of drones is a very important part of our overall defense strategy," the Lithuanian president said.

He added that the national defense system should not think that it is the only one that has experience in matters related to the development of drone capabilities.

Nausėda promised to discuss the situation with the Minister of Defense and the Chief of the General Staff.

"I think that we should meet with the Minister of Defense and the Chief of the General Staff and get acquainted with the drone development strategy, which, according to the military, has been prepared, and probably hold a meeting of the State Defense Council on this issue, because we simply have no right to waste time," Nauseda said.

Last week, Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonite said that the Lithuanian government had recently started developing its own concept on the issue.

Some politicians have begun to pay more attention to drones since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, where both sides have used drones to perform a variety of tasks from reconnaissance to destroying enemy targets.
