Poland does not limit Ukraine's use of its weapons

May 29, 2024

Poland's Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk has said that the Polish weapons that Warsaw is handing over to Kyiv have no restrictions on strikes on military targets in Russia.

Tomczyk said this in an interview with Radio ZET after returning from a meeting of EU defense ministers in Brussels.

“Polish weapons have no such restrictions [on Russia]. Ukrainians can fight the way they want to, and this is a very, very important aspect of this assistance. Ukraine has been attacked, Ukraine has the right to defend itself as it sees fit. I believe that Western countries should also lift such restrictions,” the official said.

According to Tomczyk, Poland is still supplying weapons to Ukraine, having sent 44 donations in total, and the 45th package is being prepared, which will be decided by the government. The last package was worth 15-20 billion zlotys (1.5-2 billion hryvnias), Tomczyk did not specify the content.

The deputy defense minister also noted that there are currently no discussions in Poland about sending Polish soldiers to Ukraine, but depending on the situation, this issue may arise in the future.
