Jul 24, 2024

Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysh said that Warsaw will not be able to agree to Ukraine's accession to the EU until the countries resolve the dispute over the events in Volyn during World War II.

According to Yevropeiska Pravda, he said this on Polsat News.

Kosiniak-Kamysh, who belongs to the Polish Peasant Party, noted that Poland supports Ukraine in the current situation as much as it can, although not everything is perfect in relations between the countries.

He continued that realpolitik “should give an ultimatum” and that Ukraine's accession to the EU will not be possible if the Volyn issue remains unresolved.

The minister also noted that for Poland, only a Ukrainian victory would mark the end of the war, as any other outcome would still pose a direct threat of war to Poland.

“The issue of Poland's security and the issue of Europe is being resolved here,” he said.
