President of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs said that the decisions of the NATO summit in Vilnius on the country's security and defense can be assessed as very positive.

He said this after meeting with Latvian Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins, LSM reports.

Among the positive decisions of the summit, Rinkēvičs called Turkey's promise to ratify Sweden's accession to NATO, the approval of new NATO defense plans, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's commitment to double the number of Canadian soldiers in Latvia and invest in the country.

"As for Ukraine, several positive decisions were made. The NATO-Ukraine Council has been established, and Ukraine has been promised even more assistance. No one doubts that Ukraine will become a NATO member someday, of course, the question is when it will happen if the war is over," he said.

According to Rinkēvičs, Ukraine may have wanted more at the summit, but this is not the last NATO summit, and the work will continue.
