Rinkēvičs calls for allowing Ukraine to use Western weapons

May 27, 2024

Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs has called on Western partners to lift restrictions on Ukraine's use of weapons they provide and noted that Russia's current attempts to attack are also a result of the West's delays and indecision.

He said this in an interview with CNN.

Rinkēvičs stated that the Russian offensive in the Kharkiv region is not only the result of Russia's ability to put the economy on a military footing and mobilize but also the result of mistakes in the way Western partners respond to the situation and support Ukraine.

“What we are seeing is a consequence of our inability to provide Ukraine with enough weapons and imposing restrictions on how Ukraine can use them - to strike at Russian territory. We are not talking about civilians here, but about legitimate military targets,” the Latvian president said.

He said that he absolutely agreed with the NATO Secretary General that it is time for the allies to reconsider restrictions on the use of weapons provided by Ukraine.
