Russia risks becoming an economic colony of China, – CIA director
Russia's growing dependence on China as Putin isolates himself from the West means that Moscow risks becoming an "economic colony" of Beijing.
This was stated by the director of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) William Burns, Sky News reports.
Speaking at an event at Rice University in Texas, Burns said that Moscow is becoming "more and more dependent on China”.
He said that "in some respects" Russia "risks in time becoming an economic colony of China, dependent on the export of energy and raw materials."
As reported, on March 20, the head of China Xi Jinping was in Russia on a working visit.
Earlier, John Kirby, Coordinator for Strategic Communications at the National Security Council at the White House, said that China and Russia do not have such a network of allies and partners as the United States. Therefore, Moscow and Beijing are trying to strengthen their relations.
