Russian troops advanced in Bakhmut, - British intelligence

Apr 7, 2023

In recent days, Russian troops have gained new momentum in the battle for Bakhmut, after their advance had been severely stalled since late March. The Wagner mercenaries and airborne troops seem to have established cooperation.

The U.K. Ministry of Defense reported this on Twitter.

"Russia has made further gains and has now highly likely advanced into the town centre, and has seized the west bank of the Bakhmutka River," the report said.

According to British intelligence, Ukraine’s key 0506 supply route to the west of the town is likely severely threatened. Russian regular forces, likely including airborne troops, have probably reinforced the area, and Russia is again using artillery more effectively in the sector.

"There is realistic possibility that, locally, Wagner and Russian MoD commanders have paused their ongoing feud and improved co-operation," Britain's Defense Ministry noted.

Earlier, British intelligence reported that the attack by Russian troops on the city of Bakhmut in the Donbas had virtually stalled. First and foremost, this is the result of the extreme exhaustion of Russian forces.
