Serbia suspends arms exports for a month

Jul 14, 2023

On Friday, Serbian Defense Minister Milos Vusevic confirmed that the government had decided to ban arms exports for a 30-day period.

This was reported by the Balkan service of Radio Liberty.

In early July, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that Serbia's national interests were under the highest degree of threat, without specifying what it was about, and announced a temporary moratorium on arms exports.

On Friday, the Serbian Defense Ministry confirmed a 30-day ban on the sale of locally produced weapons abroad, with priority given to the Serbian Armed Forces.

Vucevic added that after 30 days, the government will assess the effectiveness of the moratorium and decide whether to extend it or resume the export work of the defense industry.
