Stoltenberg: Ukraine cannot wait for air defence systems

Apr 10, 2024

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has once again called on Ukraine's allies to speed up the delivery of military aid, including air defense and ammunition, which Ukraine needs immediately.

According to Yevropeiska Pravda, he said this on 10 April during a meeting with Finnish President Alexander Stubb at NATO headquarters in Brussels.

Stoltenberg stressed that the situation on the battlefield in Ukraine is difficult, and delays in military aid - especially the supply of air defense systems and ammunition - will allow Russian missiles to hit more targets and "put pressure along the front line".

"Ukraine simply cannot wait. It needs air defense, ammunition, and assistance. Immediately," he stressed.

The Secretary-General reminded that the Alliance is working to ensure reliable and predictable assistance to Kyiv now and in the long term, "so that Ukraine relies less on voluntary contributions and more on NATO commitments".

"Moscow has to understand that it cannot wait for them, and so a package for Ukraine with predictable and reliable support is what we are working on in NATO," Stoltenberg added.
