The U.S. State Department approved the sale of Tomahawk cruise missiles to Japan for a total of $2.35 billion.
This is stated in a statement on the website of the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency, Ukrinform reports.
"The Department of State has decided to approve a possible foreign military sale of the Tomahawk weapon system and related equipment to the Government of Japan for a total of $ 2.35 billion," the DSCA said.
It is noted that the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency issued the necessary certification, notifying Congress of the possible sale.
The Japanese government has asked the United States to purchase up to two hundred Tomahawk Block IV All Up Rounds (AUR) (RGM-109E), up to two hundred Tomahawk Block V AUR (RGM-109E), and fourteen Tomahawk Tactical Weapon Control Systems (TTWCS).
