Ukrainian defenders are ready for a counteroffensive at the front, but the war with the Russian occupiers may last for a long time. This was stated on Tuesday, June 6, by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley, AP reports.

"Like the Battle of Normandy or any other major battle, war is a cost. There will be days when you see a lot of activity and there will be days when there is very little activity. There will be offensive and defensive actions. So it will be a two-sided struggle for a long time," said Milley.

He added that Ukrainian soldiers are currently well-armed and have received special training in the West.

"There has been training, and a lot of ammunition has been provided. I think the Ukrainians are ready to do what they think they need to do, regardless of the type of operation they are conducting," said Mark Milley.

At the same time, the general emphasized that Ukrainian forces have been defending their country well since the full-scale Russian invasion.

As a reminder, the Ministry of Defense reported the first results of the offensive. Thus, Ukrainian troops are conducting active offensives and have achieved some success in the vicinity of the city of Bakhmut in the Donetsk region. In addition, the troops of the Khortytsia Operational and Strategic Grouping are conducting offensive operations on the eastern front.
