US announces new sanctions over Iran's drone production

Mar 22, 2023

On Tuesday, the US Treasury Department announced new sanctions against four companies and three individuals in Iran and Turkey in connection with the Iranian production of drones used to strike civilians in Ukraine.

According to Yevropeiska Pravda, this is stated in a statement by the US Treasury Department.

The sanctions were imposed for the participation of companies and individuals in the purchase of equipment, including European-made engines for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), to support Iranian UAV and weapons programs.

It is noted that this procurement network operates on behalf of the Ministry of Defense and Logistics of the Iranian Armed Forces, which controls several firms involved in the development of UAVs and ballistic missiles.

The sanctions targeted the Iranian Defense Technology and Research Center, its procurement firm Farazan Industrial Engineering Inc., and two other firms, as well as the procurement agents of these companies.

"Iran's well-documented proliferation of UAVs and conventional weapons to its proxies continues to undermine both regional security and global stability," said Brian Nelson, the U.S. Treasury Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence.

"The United States will continue to expose foreign procurement networks in any jurisdiction that supports Iran's military-industrial complex," he added.
