According to Ukrinform, this was reported by the press service of the US Navy's 5th Fleet.

"More than 3,000 U.S. sailors and marines from the Batan Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) arrived in the Middle East on August 6," the statement said.

The reinforcements arrived in the Red Sea on August 6 aboard the amphibious assault ships Bataan and Carter Hall. Not only additional personnel from the US Navy and Marine Corps were deployed to the region, but also airplanes, helicopters, convertibles, and amphibious landing craft.

In late July, the Central Command (CENTCOM) of the US Armed Forces announced such plans. It claimed that US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin had given the relevant order "against the backdrop of Iranian attempts to seize merchant ships in the CENTCOM area of responsibility."

The US 5th Fleet's area of operations covers approximately 2.5 million square miles of water and includes the Persian Gulf, Gulf of Oman, Red Sea, parts of the Indian Ocean, and three critical points in the Strait of Hormuz, Suez Canal, and Bab al-Mandeb.
