White House backs Zelenskyy's call for direct talks with Xi

Official Washington supports the President of Ukraine's desire to establish a direct dialog with the Chinese leader.

This was stated on Wednesday during a press briefing in Washington by the coordinator of the US National Security Council, John Kirby, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Of course, we support at least a conversation between President Xi and President Zelensky," the White House spokesman emphasized in response to a question about whether the United States supports President Zelensky's call for a visit to Ukraine by the Chinese president.

Kirby recalled that the American side has been insisting in recent weeks that the Chinese leader should hear Ukraine's point of view on the aggression unleashed by Russia.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, in an interview with the Associated Press, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he was ready to receive Chinese President Xi Jinping and talk to him directly.

"We are ready to see him here. I want to talk to him. I talked to him before the full-scale war started. But during this whole year, more than a year of the war, this has not happened once," the President said.

At the same time, the Office of the President of Ukraine informed that preparatory work is underway to organize a direct conversation between the leaders of Ukraine and China.
