Zelensky granted Zaluzhny and Budanov the title of Hero of Ukraine

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has awarded former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhny and Head of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine Kyrylo Budanov the title of Hero of Ukraine.

"For outstanding personal merits in the defense of state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, selfless service to the Ukrainian people, I hereby decree: to award the title of Hero of Ukraine with the Order of the Golden Star to Valeriy Zaluzhny, General " the document says.

As for Budanov, he received the highest award "for personal courage and heroism displayed in the defense of state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, selfless service to the Ukrainian people".

Later, the President of Ukraine posted a video of the award ceremony for Zaluzhny and Budanov.

"Today, we are honoring with state awards and the title of Hero of Ukraine the soldiers who, together with all those who stood up to defend our state and Ukrainian life, determine the fate of Ukraine. Ukraine has already managed to stop Russia. Ukraine has learned how to defend its own in exactly the right way to win. And we have to go all the way the way we need to in order to achieve our goals," he signed the footage.

As reported, on February 8, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhny, who had been in charge of the army since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, resigned. He was replaced by the commander of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi.
