Jan 24, 2023

The presidents of Ukraine and Finland have announced that the Scandinavian country will contribute to the so-called tank coalition, but in what form is not yet specified.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Sauli Niinistö announced this at a press conference in Kyiv.

"Today we talked about creating a separate platform to reinforce Ukraine with armored vehicles, including tanks. I am very glad that Finland will take its proper place there," President Zelenskyy said.

Niinistö confirmed that there are discussions between the allies to create a larger platform to transfer tanks to Ukraine.

"Taking one tank here, one tank there is not enough. There has to be a powerful unit in Europe. We are discussing the possibility of building such a unit and we are looking at different options on the Finnish side," the Finnish president said.

He noted that the training of Ukrainian soldiers, among other things, was being considered.

"We are one of the few countries in Europe that has a draft in the ranks of its armed forces. The military has to train people every year, receive people, there are appropriate facilities for this, opportunities, extensive experience of instructors, appropriate facilities," Niinistö said.
