Zelenskyy names five main reasons for delaying the war

Mar 24, 2023

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that Ukraine's cooperation with the European Union has seen more delays than new achievements. In his address to the European Council on March 23, he thanked the partners for their support in the areas of defense, energy, and justice, but also pointed out the difficulties in achieving peace in Ukraine as soon as possible.

First, the President noted, the transfer of weapons to Ukrainian soldiers that can protect Ukrainians from terror should not be delayed. First of all, long-range weapons.

Second, Zelenskyy expressed gratitude for the decision to purchase MiGs for Ukraine, as it will significantly strengthen the protection of Ukrainian skies, but emphasized that "we need more modern aircraft."

Third: There can be no "even a hint" of delaying sanctions decisions. Moreover, there can be no dilution of sanctions, especially under the "manipulative cover" of food security. Strong sanctions mean security while easing sanctions is an invitation to new crises, the president emphasizes.

The fourth example: Ukraine has long been discussing organizing a Peace Formula Summit. Everyone is well aware that in the current circumstances, many leaders will not be able to come to Ukraine, so the summit can be organized in one of the world or European capitals. "Wouldn't this add to Europe's global strength? It will definitely add," Zelensky said.

Fifth: It is critically important that there is no delay in the rapprochement between Ukraine and the European Union. Ukraine is ready for a decision to start negotiations on EU membership this year. The same readiness is required from every European leader.
