At a press conference during his visit to China on May 17, Russian President Vladimir Putin commented on the idea of an “Olympic truce” proposed by Emmanuel Macron, hinting that Moscow would not accept it.

Putin's words were quoted by the RIA Novosti propaganda website.

The Russian said that he considers the Olympic principles, in particular the “Olympic truce,” to be “very correct,” but immediately added that “today's international sports officials are violating the principles of the Olympic Charter, politicizing sport, which is unacceptable.”

Putin went on to complain that Russian athletes were not allowed to participate in the Olympics with the Russian flag and national anthem, while Moscow is expected to follow “the rules that the West dictates to it.”

“Does this meet any elementary standards of justice? There is nothing like that. They violate them themselves and demand that we comply. Dear friends, we will not get far like this. No one has ever agreed on such issues in this way,” the Kremlin leader summarized.
