May 17, 2024

The United Kingdom has announced the imposition of sanctions against three companies and one individual for illegal arms trade in exchange for oil between Russia and North Korea.

According to Yevropeiska Pravda, this was reported by the UK government.

The new sanctions are directed against Paekyangsan Shipping, which transports oil products between the DPRK and Russia, as well as Toplivo Bunkering Co. for allowing ships involved in such transportation to stay in the Russian port of Vostochny.

The measures include an asset freeze, transportation sanctions, and a travel ban, and are also directed against Russian cargo service provider Vostochnaya Stevedoring Company and TBC director Alexei Vorotnikov, the government said in a statement.

“The sanctions emphasize the joint malicious efforts of the Russian Federation and the DPRK to circumvent UN sanctions on oil products that help facilitate North Korea's illegal military programs,” the statement said.
