The Ukrainian government's calls to NATO member states, including Poland, to shoot down Russian missiles and drones are not attempts to allegedly “drag” Warsaw into the Russian-Ukrainian war. The statement by the Polish Deputy Prime Minister is groundless.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine (MFA).
This is how the Ukrainian foreign ministry reacted to the recent statement by Krzysztof Gawkowski, Minister of Digital Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister of Poland, that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy allegedly wants to draw Warsaw into Russia's war against Ukraine.
Yesterday, on Radio Zet, a Polish official expressed the opinion that if the Polish Armed Forces shoot down Russian missiles and drones over Ukraine, it would seem to mean a war with Russia.
According to Gawkowski, Zelensky “wants to drag Poland into a war with Russia.”
The Ukrainian ministry stated that it considers Gawkowski's words to be groundless,
“We are convinced that shooting down Russian missiles and drones flying in the direction of Poland over the territory of Ukraine, and not over the territory of Poland itself, is in the interests of the security of Poland itself and its citizens,” the Foreign Ministry emphasized.
The ministry also reminded that Russia “is waging war not only against Ukraine, but also against the European security architecture in general, of which Poland is an important part.”
“Overcoming Russian aggression against Ukraine is a vital interest of Poland,” the Ukrainian ministry emphasizes.-
“Taking into account the numerous provocations, cyberattacks and violations of the sovereign airspace of Poland and other European countries by Russian missiles and drones, it is at least unacceptable to talk about Ukraine's alleged desire to drag Poland or other countries into a war,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.-
In addition, the Ukrainian ministry noted that resistance from the Armed Forces “prevents the expansion of the war and potential military threats to Poland.”
“We are convinced that in the face of the ongoing Russian aggression, it is important to preserve and strengthen solidarity between Ukraine and Poland. This is exactly what the Ukrainian government's policy is aimed at. We hope that the Polish government shares this goal,” the Foreign Ministry said.-
