May 22, 2024

Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andriy Kostin informed that 357 Russian servicemen and representatives of the occupation authorities have been identified so far. They are suspected of committing premeditated murders, torture and ill-treatment of civilians and prisoners of war. According to him, 83 of them have already been convicted.

He announced this on the social network X following a meeting with the UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions, Morris Tidball-Bintz.

"From the very beginning of its criminal aggression in 2014, Russia has been systematically abducting, torturing and killing Ukrainians. With the beginning of a full-scale war, this policy of intimidation and destruction of all those who identify themselves as Ukrainians has become even more brutal," Kostin said in a statement.

The Prosecutor General of Ukraine added that the actual number of such crimes, including those committed in the temporarily occupied territories and in places of "detention" located in Russia, is much higher.

"To combat such crimes, we are optimizing the work of the Prosecutor General's Office and strengthening the knowledge and skills of our prosecutors and investigators with the support of international partners. We are open to strengthening our cooperation to ensure effective investigation of these and other war crimes and bringing the perpetrators to justice," he emphasized.
