German Defense Minister visits Bundeswehr troops in Lithuania

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius met in Lithuania with the command of the Bundeswehr Brigade, which Berlin is deploying until 2027 when a permanent contingent will be formed there.

In his short speech to the soldiers, led by Colonel Andre Gastenrath, he said that “We are on the right track.”

“I am very pleased with what you are doing here. It is exemplary, it is unprecedented in the history of Germany and the Bundeswehr,” Pistorius said.

The minister then traveled to the Lithuanian military base in Pabrade, where German soldiers are taking part in NATO's Steadfast Defender defense exercise, the largest NATO exercise since the end of the Cold War.
