Analysts at the Institute for the Study of War confirm that the counteroffensive of the Ukrainian Defense Forces is noticeably developing in the south and east.
It is reported in the latest review by the ISW.
Ukrainian forces are advancing in several directions in the western part of the Kherson region and have secured territory behind the Siversky Donets River in the Donetsk region.
“The pace of the counteroffensive will likely change dramatically from day to day as Ukrainian forces work to starve the Russians of necessary supplies, disrupt their command and control, and weaken their morale even as counteroffensive ground assaults continue,” the review says.
The ISW predicts that the Russians will occasionally counterattack and reclaim some of their lost positions and, of course, launch fierce artillery and air attacks on liberated settlements and advancing Ukrainian forces.
As military analysts note, Ukrainian forces have made significant progress to begin generating more realistic comments from Russian bloggers, who have so far “listened to the Kremlin’s optimistic rhetoric”.
On September 4, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukrainian troops liberated two populated areas in southern Ukraine and one in the Donetsk region. The ISW independently confirmed the liberation of a settlement in the Donetsk region and one in the Kherson region.
